The “before” photos of this project tell a familiar story. The original deck featured traditional white balusters and wooden floorboards that struggled against the Northeast winters. In the winter shots, you can see how snow sits on the wood, leading to rot and structural degradation over time. Furthermore, the under-deck area was underutilized, with exposed gravel and a lack of cohesive landscaping.

The design utilized a multi-level approach that complemented the home’s stucco exterior and large arched windows. By choosing a modern earth-tone composite decking with dark picture-frame bordering, the design added immediate “pop” and visual interest. We also incorporated a privacy screen on the far right—a custom solution that provides intimacy without sacrificing the open-air feel of the backyard.
The “completion” photo showcases the incredible results of our team’s hard work. We replaced the dated white railings with a mix of modern white balusters and high-visibility sections that allow the homeowners to look out over their wooded lot.
